In 1893, Ida B. Wells said, “Those who commit the murders write the reports.” Her paper was often printed on pink paper to be recognizable by formerly enslaved Black people who were permitted to learn how to read at that time. People would identify her paper by its color and then bring it back to their neighborhood to be read aloud at community gatherings.
